About this course

Do you ever feel overwhelmed anaesthetising a small animal with heart disease? You picked up a murmur during your pre-anaesthesia examination and you don’t know how to proceed?

During this course we will go through the basic pathophysiology of different heart diseases that are commonly encountered in small animals. We will discuss the pharmacology of the anaesthetic and analgesic agents and how they can affect the cardiovascular system of the dogs and cats with different heart diseases (acquired and congenital). We will also include real case scenarios, parameters we need to monitor and prioritise, pharmacologic agents that we should rather avoid and what alternatives we have in order to offer a balanced and safe anaesthetic in animals with heart disease.

We will also have an advance talk on anaesthesia for heart surgery that might be interesting for everyone even if is not part of our everyday clinical practice, it is still an exciting topic.

Most importantly, we are already looking forward to the discussion with the participants and to go through everyday challenges and problems and find viable and comfortable solutions for everyone.

Why do this course?
This is a course appropriate for any veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse that would like to improve their knowledge on cardiac anaesthesia and to be able to provide a safe anaesthetic for animals with heart disease.

Also, this course could be a good introduction for individuals that might be considering Advanced training through CertAVP or further specialisation. Basic principles are included in each talk so everyone can follow, and the case discussion will cover a wide range of cases.

The webinars for this course will be pre-recorded and can be viewed as recorded versions throughout the course. A live Q&A session with the tutor will run on 1:30pm (London time) on the following dates:
