About this course

When speaking to vets in practice, the selection of antimicrobials to treat different bacterial diseases is often a bit of a minefield and can leave many vets feeling confused. This should not be the case. The webinar seeks to simplify the selection process from the increasingly narrow number of antimicrobials that are available to us.

Antimicrobials are an essential tool for all veterinary surgeons in farm animal practice who strive to cure individual or groups of animals suffering from diagnosed bacterial infections in order to relieve suffering and improve productivity. This one hour webinar goes through the action of the antimicrobials that we can use in practice and how we can select the most appropriate licensed treatments that will get to the site of the infection, whilst thinking of the practicalities that clients may face when administering these treatments. Why does it matter if an antimicrobial is a base or weak acid? If it is lipophilic or phobic? What role does particle size play in this? This should be a little clearer once you have completed the webinar.

The course is primarily designed for recent graduates or those re-entering farm animal practice who may need to refresh their knowledge, although there is something to learn for all those in farm practice. It is essential to follow licensing laws, something those coming from other sectors struggle with, but from the myriad of treatments available you will learn which is best for an animal with a specific bacterial infection on a set day in that environment.
