About this course

This webinar we will look at the role that bacteria play in chronic intestinal diseases in dogs and cats. We will question the usefulness of faecal cultures in cases of chronic diarrhoea in light of the fact that many bacteria can be cultured from healthy or diseased animals in similar frequency. We will discuss what the current recommendations are regarding testing and treatment of specific bacterial infections, such as campylobacter, clostridia perfringens and difficile, salmonella and helicobacter. We will also look at the bigger picture and try and investigate a bit into the relationship of commensals and the intestinal immune system- and what role probiotics have in the treatment of diarrhoea in cats and dogs.

This recorded webinar was originally part of a four week live Webinar Plus course: Essentials of GI disorders, which is now available as a recorded Webinar Plus course.  As it was part of a live course, the content of the webinar may refer to work that needed to be undertaken during the live course, such as self-assessment tasks and discussion forums or other webinars.  If you are interested in this subject you may want to consider registering on the recorded Webinar Plus version Recorded Webinar Plus: Essentials of GI disorders and access the course content along with four webinars.
