Course Information

About this course
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common feline endocrinopathies and the management of diabetic cats requires considerable commitment from both veterinary staff and cat owners. Effective communication between the veterinary team and owners of diabetic cats is vital to achieve good client engagement and treatment outcomes, and veterinary nurses can play an integral role in this client-practice relationship.

Free webinar
This complimentary CPD evening, offered by the Royal Veterinary College’s Diabetic Remission Clinic, will help veterinary nurses achieve their full potential as a central figure in the care of diabetic cats and their owners.

If you’ve asked yourself any of the following questions, this evening is for you:
• How can veterinary nurses contribute to optimal management of diabetes in cats?
• Do all diabetic cats have diabetes for the same reason, and does this affect treatment?
• What is diabetic remission and how can I help diabetic cats achieve this?
• What’s the latest news in the treatment of feline diabetes mellitus?
• Can my practice help forward our understanding of the best treatments for diabetic cats?

Please join us for this live webinar, there will be an opportunity for Questions & Answers at the end of the session and you will gain a CPD certificate for 2 hours.

This event is free but spaces are limited, to secure your place, please book online as soon as possible.

The webinar will take place via Zoom, registration will be from 7:00pm with the webinar starting at 7:15pm. A recording of the webinar will be available to view for a further 2 weeks.

We need your help - Feline Diabetic Diet Research Trial: Reglucat study

We are also looking for participants for a research trial investigating how dietary change can promote diabetic remission.

The RVC Diabetic Remission Clinic is recruiting for a 1-year trial examining the ability of a new prescription diet to promote weight loss and diabetic remission in overweight cats with diabetes mellitus. The trial period will last for 1 year; cats will only be fed the test diet for the first 12 weeks and will be then monitored up to 52 weeks. Patients will attend 5-7 consultations at the RVC Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at the RVC in Hertfordshire. The project will also investigate how achieving diabetic remission, and weight loss, affects the gut microbiome of diabetic cats.
