About this course

Making fish patients a possibility for every veterinary practice

It is estimated that around 7 million pet fish are currently kept indoors in the UK, approximately 14 times more than pet rabbits, yet they are presented to veterinary practices far less frequently. Fish have comparable abilities to experience pain, and poor welfare is common, meaning many suffer in silence. This webinar provides a practical introduction to the anatomy and physiology of fish, with a clear focus on how veterinary practices can confidently and safely accommodate fish patients. Delegates will learn how to house fish appropriately in practice and how to perform general anaesthesia. The session concentrates on the species most commonly seen in practice, such as goldfish and carp, to ensure the content is directly applicable to everyday veterinary work. There is far more that can be offered to these pets than is currently realised.

Why do this course?
Fish deserve equal access to veterinary care, whether barriers arise from owner unawareness or professional reluctance to encourage treatment. This webinar will demonstrate that there are simple, achievable improvements any veterinary practice can make for fish patients, without the need for expensive equipment or extensive specialist knowledge. By the end of the session, delegates will feel more confident welcoming fish into their practice and advocating for better welfare standards.
