About this course

This webinar will highlight the importance of managing play in ways that maximise its benefits when dealing with cases involving problematic behaviour and compromised emotional health.

Play is often perceived as a purely positive experience, but the emotional implications of play can be complex. Emotional motivations may not be entirely positive throughout a playful encounter and the potential for emotional conflict in the context of play needs to be considered. In addition, the effect of play on emotional arousal is often forgotten or underestimated and any evaluation of the potential benefits of play must include consideration of arousal and its effects on behavioural responses. Dogs are socially obligate mammals and playful interaction with their caregivers, with fellow canines and sometimes with other species can form an important part of any dog’s life. However, every dog is an individual and consideration of the benefits of play needs to be undertaken on a case by case basis. This webinar will highlight the importance of managing play in ways that maximise its benefits when dealing with cases involving problematic behaviour and compromised emotional health.
