About this course

Animals presenting with an acute abdomen are characterised as having abdominal pain, often accompanied by the presence of vomiting and diarrhoea. A big challenge can be to determine whether the underlying cause is medical in surgical in nature. This needs to be done rapidly in order to prevent any further deterioration in the patient's condition that may result in costly complications or a worsening in the condition. This topic covers a streamlined approach to such cases, with a focus on obtaining and interpreting readily available clinical data to inform decision making. Consideration will also be given to management of some common causes of acute abdominal pain.

This recorded webinar was originally part of a four week live Webinar Plus course: Fundamentals of emergency medicine part 1, which is now available as a recorded Webinar Plus course.  As it was part of a live course, the content of the webinar may refer to work that needed to be undertaken during the live course, such as self-assessment tasks and discussion forums or other webinars.  If you are interested in this subject you may want to consider registering on the recorded Webinar Plus version Recorded Webinar Plus: Fundamentals of emergency medicine part 1 and access the course content along with four webinars.
