Meticillin-resistant staphylococci have emerged as important small animal pathogens. Although some cases may present as uncomplicated skin or wound infections that resolve with minimal veterinary attention, most require a fully informed approach for successful therapy and a comprehensive owner education. This lecture provides key facts on the epidemiology of MRSA and MRSP, explain appropriate diagnostic tests and discuss management options. It will outline tips for prevention of nosocomial infection and highlight zoonotic and ethical consideration relevant for patient management and owner awareness.
