Shock is a common presenting complaint in emergency medicine and, if not recognised and treated rapidly, can be a significant cause of additional patient morbidity and mortality. During this webinar, shock is looked at in more detail using a case-based approach. Animals presenting with an acute abdomen are characterised as having abdominal pain, often accompanied by the presence of vomiting and diarrhoea. A big challenge can be to determine whether the underlying cause is medical in surgical in nature. This needs to be done rapidly in order to prevent any further deterioration in the patient's condition that may result in costly complications or a worsening in the condition. This topic covers a streamlined approach to such cases, with a focus on obtaining and interpreting readily available clinical data to inform decision making.
