It is very common to find lumps and bumps on your horse. In this lecture Mike Hewetson, Senior Lecturer in Equine Internal Medicine at the RVC, will explain some of the more common causes of lumps and bumps and what the vet can do to help your horse.

Lumps and bumps can be broadly divided into those caused by infection or inflammation; cancerous tissue (tumours) or urticarial reactions (hives). In many cases, the vet will be able to give you a good idea of what is causing the lump or bump simply based on its appearance, location or behaviour. However, in some instances, a sample of the tissue may be need to be submitted for analysis in order to make a definitive diagnosis. Once the vet has determined the cause of the lump or bump, they will be able to recommend a specific treatment. As you can imagine, there are many different treatments available, and your vet will be able to advise you on what is best for your horse. The three most common causes of lumps and bumps in the horse are sarcoids, melanomas and collagen granulomas. Join us in this lecture for an in depth discussion of these lumps and to discover the very latest in the treatment options available.
