Shock is a common presenting complaint in emergency medicine and, if not recognised and treated rapidly, can be a significant cause of additional patient morbidity and mortality. During this webinar, shock is looked at in more detail using a case-based approach. It covers the common causes of shock and how to distinguish between them using clinical signs as well which diagnostic tests may be useful in this regard. Then the webinar covers the best way to treat each of the different types of shock, including techniques that may be considered in patients not responding to standard therapy.

Approach to the patient with acute abdominal pain Key Information

Animals presenting with an acute abdomen are characterised as having abdominal pain, often accompanied by the presence of vomiting and diarrhoea. A big challenge can be to determine whether the underlying cause is medical in surgical in nature. This needs to be done rapidly in order to prevent any further deterioration in the patient's condition that may result in costly complications or a worsening in the condition. This topic covers a streamlined approach to such cases, with a focus on obtaining and interpreting readily available clinical data to inform decision making. Consideration will also be given to management of some common causes of acute abdominal pain.
