About this course

Have you struggled to diagnose and stabilise a patient with immune-mediated neurological disease? Would you like to better understand these conditions and optimise your long-term management plan?

Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases of the nervous system (such as steroid responsive meningitis-arteritis and meningoencephalitis of unknown aetiology) are increasingly common and often represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge in practice. These conditions can present as an emergency, requiring prompt recognition and initiation of appropriate therapy. Decision-making regarding if and when to refer patients in which immune-mediated inflammatory CNS disease is suspected, is a common dilemma for vets in practice. These are also chronic diseases that require ongoing collaboration between veterinary surgeon and owner to optimise their long-term management. In this course we will discuss the most common immune-mediated S diseases of the nervous system, including how to recognise their typical presenting signs, commonly performed diagnostics, decision-making regarding referral and acute management options.  We will then move on to consider long term monitoring and therapy, discussing the most recent literature and immunosuppressive treatment protocols. Our aim is to give you the confidence to recognise and successfully manage these challenging, yet often highly rewarding, patients in practice.

Why do this course

Delegates will build confidence in recognising and managing patients with neurological deficits and/or pain caused by common immune-mediated inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. Both stabilising the emergency patient and managing the disease in the long term will be covered.  Learning will be supported by current literature on treatment protocols to ensure the most up to date recommendations are provided.

The webinars for this course will be pre-recorded and can be viewed as recorded versions throughout the course. A live Q&A session with the tutor will run on 1:30pm (London time) on the following dates:
