About this course

Learn order out of chaos, learn how to run cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

How do we best treat animals in cardiopulmonary arrest? Evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines (published by the RECOVER Initiative initially in 2012 and updated in 2024), aimed at maximizing patient survival after cardiopulmonary arrest, led to the official veterinary CPR certification process approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. During this course participants will be taught the concepts and techniques of RECOVER Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). This course is suitable for vets and veterinary nurses.

Participants must have successfully completed the RECOVER online BLS and ALS courses, available at http://recoverinitiative.org or http://learning.acvecc.org, before attending this onsite, hands-on workshop. Successful completion of the online course followed by this onsite course grants certification as a RECOVER BLS and ALS Rescuer. A discount of 20% off the online part is available with ACVECC, a code for this will be provided at time of booking. 

A certificate from RECOVER will be sent on completion of this course. 

Basic Life Support Certification
Participants will receive a review of core concepts in RECOVER BLS and have an opportunity to apply these concepts through scenarios using canine mannequins. Practice scenarios include single-rescuer BLS and two-rescuer BLS, with and without intubation. The session concludes with a practical assessment resulting in certification as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer upon passing.

Advanced Life Support Certification
Participants will review core concepts in RECOVER ALS through scenario-based immersive simulation. The scenarios will provide the opportunity to apply concepts in patient monitoring, use of drugs, defibrillation, and the decision-making process of appropriate interventions during CPR. The session concludes with a team-based practical assessment resulting in certification as a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer upon passing.
